BookCon Haul 2019

Here is my book haul from BookCon 2019! I tried to summarize these books as best as I could. I also mentioned the release dates of every book in case you read the summary and you are interested, you know when it is coming out. I had an amazing time at BookCon. I met some amazing new people and got some great books there too:)))

The Darkest Star by Jennifer L Armentrout: This is another story in the Lux world. It is the first book in the Origin series. It is about a girl named Evie (reminds me of the pokemon but it’s fine) and she goes to a bar where Luxen and humans are able to mingle. There she meets Luc and she is instantly drawn to him. Originally, she thinks he is a Luxen but he is much more powerful than that. I have not finished the Lux series but I am planning to make it my next read. I bought this one at The Strand during the weekend of BookCon and I am very excited to pick this one up.

The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L Armentrout: This is the second book in the Origin series. I got this book at an in-booth signing where I was able to meet Jennifer and she was so sweet! This is a continuation of the first book but I am not going to summarize it in hopes of not spoiling myself and others.(This book comes out on October 8, 2019)

Now Entering Addamsville by Francesca Zappia: The summary of this book is it is about a girl named Zora and she is framed for a crime she did not do so she must track down the true culprit. This book was compared to Stranger Things which I love so I am very excited to pick this book up. (This book comes out October 1, 2019)

Shadow Frost by Coco Ma: This is another fantasy book about a girl named Asterin, Princess of Axaria, who discovers she may be the key to defeating this demon who has been terrorizing her people for far too long. She goes on a quest with her friends to defeat this demon and she will not rest until it is slain. Many warriors in the past have tried to kill this demon and have died trying so will she be able to? I received this book at an in-booth signing and the author was the sweetest person ever! She was so personable and really took the time to talk to each and everyone in line which I thought was nice and it made me even more excited to read her book! (This book comes out October 1, 2019)

Fireborne by Rosaria Munda: This book is about Annie and Lee. Annie comes from a lowborn family who was executed by dragonfire. Lee comes from a higher class family who was murdered by executioners. They meet in an orphanage and forge a friendship. But when war breaks out in the city, both must decide what to do and the path they will take. (This book comes out October 15, 2019)

Rated by Melissa Grey: This story is a dystopian novel about a society that uses a rating system to determine value. The higher number you have the more important you are in the eyes of the society. The students at Maplethorpe Academy use this rating system because everything they do reflects these ratings. But when there is a vandalism in the front of the school, it affects the lives of six specific students. (This book comes out September 3, 2019)

StepSister by Jennifer Donnelly: This book is already out but they were handing out ARCs of it at a booth. It is a cinderella retelling but it is not about Cinderella. We follow the ugly stepsister. When she tried on the shoe and it did not fit, she was shamed for lying to the prince. Isabella has tried her hardest to fit in but she is done trying to be someone who is as pretty or sweet as Cinderella is. She gets a chance to alter destiny and prove that it will take more than a heartbreak to break her.

The Candle and the Flame by Nafiza Azad:This book is about a city that is scarred from a recent slaughtering where everyone was killed except for Fatima and two others. Honestly, that’s all I understand from the summary because there are so many words that do not make sense. But it is a high fantasy book and that is really all I know.(This book is also already out)

Beasts of the Frozen Sun by Jill Criswell: Lira is able to read souls because she is a descendent of Aillira. She meets a wounded man and reads his soul. She realizes he is different than his brethren who are known to be evil. Lira and Reyker form a bond and are set out to to fight for Lira’s life, and the fight against Dragon, a powerful tyrant. This book looks very intense and like there will be a lot of world building but I am excited to jump into it. (This book comes out August 6, 2019)

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater (Sampler): From what I understand, this book is about dreamers and the dreamed. They are somehow connected. The dreamed cannot have their own lives because they are connected to the dreamers. If the dreamer dies the dreamed will be put to sleep forever. The dreamers must be killed before they destroy everything. Ronan Lynch is a dreamer, Jordan Hennessy is a thief, and Carmen Farooq-Lane is a hunter. I think all of these characters are connected in some way. I was only given the sampler of this book so I am looking forward to the release day. (This book comes out November 5, 2019)

Into the Crooked Place by Alexandra Christo: This is about a group of four crooks. Tavia, a girl who wishes to put her crimes behind her. Wesley, a boy who grew up on the streets, starving, and wants to see the whole realm kneel before him. Kararm, a warrior who has sworn to fight against crime in the kingdom. Saxony, a fighter trying to hide from what killed her family. WhenTavia delivers a vial of dark magic to someone she cares about, she creates a huge conflict. The four crooks must come together and save the world. (This book comes out October 8, 2019)

Cursed by Frank Miller & Thomas Wheeler: This story is a King Arthur retelling. Whoever wields the sword is the one true king. But this time the sword choses a queen. This book follows a girl named Nimue. She is an outcast and known for dark magic. But the kingdom needs her to fight for them. She teams up with a boy named Arthur (I know, crazy right) and the Fey Folk to fight the corrupt king. There is also a Netflix series coming out in 2020, which I am very excited for. (This book comes out October 1, 2019)

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow: This book is about a young girl, January Scaller, who finds curiosity in a mansion filled with treasures. When she comes across a book with secrets, love, and dangers, January realizes the story in the book is entwined with her own. This summary is very vague but it seems like the type of book one would go into knowing nothing so I am not going to summarize further but this book looks very mysterious and I am very excited to pick it up. (This book comes out September 10, 2019)
