Hello everyone!! Today I'm gonna be sharing the books I received and bought in July. I included the Goodreads link, some of my thoughts, and then a summary of the book. Enjoy!
I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Kimberly Jones & Gilly Segal
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43352274-i-m-not-dying-with-you-tonight?ac=1&from_search=true
Thoughts: This book was sent to me for review and I’m actually really interested and excited to read it!
Summary: This book follows two girls and they are not friends. They both hang out with different people and have different lifestyles & personalities. But when they both attend a school football game chaos breaks out and they must work together in order to escape the night.
Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40597810-daisy-jones-the-six?ac=1&from_search=true
Thoughts: OMG I recently finished this book and I reviewed it on my blog and let me just say I am in love with everything about this book. It was so entertaining and the format made it so easy to fly through and I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Summary: This story follows the formation of a 70s rock band and the struggles they had to face while making music together. Each character is interviewed and asked questions about what actually happened while their band was together. This book discusses heavy topics like drug abuse and alcoholism.
City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8755785-city-of-heavenly-fire?ac=1&from_search=true
Thoughts: I already read this book. AND I already own a copy of it. bUt I wanted the original cover and it was on sale at The Strand so I couldn’t pass up that opportunity. If you haven’t heard about this series I will try and summarize the first book for you.
Summary: Clary lives a normal life with her best friend Simon. But then one day she goes to a bar and sees something she can’t unsee. She witnesses a shadowhunter killing a demon. Humans can’t see shadowhunters so when Jace, the shadowhunter, notices Clary can see him she is instantly thrown into the shadowhunter world with Jace and all of his friends.
I had a difficult time summarizing that and I don’t know why LOL.
Emergency Contact by Mary H.K Choi
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35297272-emergency-contact
Thoughts: I started this book but I haven’t been able to finish it yet. But I am really liking it so far (I’m about halfway through).
Summary: It follows Penny and it’s her freshman year of college. Penny’s life is kind of boring. She gets good grades, she has a somewhat decent boyfriend, and she has some friends. Penny goes to college in hopes of becoming a writer. When she has an uncomfortable and awkward encounter with Sam, they decide to swap numbers but there are no sparks. They begin texting and opening up to one another and start to depend on each other. But they don’t speak in person.
It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/248704.It_s_Kind_of_a_Funny_Story?ac=1&from_search=true
Thoughts: I picked up this book because I liked the cover and I really hope to read it soon because it looks like it’ll be a sad but an important read.
Summary: This book is about a boy named Craig and he aces his way into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School but then the stress of being good enough starts to become unbearable. He stops sleeping and eating and then he tries to kill himself. He’s put into a mental hospital where he encounters many different people who suffer from mental illnesses. There Craig must confront his anxieties and mental problems. This book is kind of an autobiography because the author faced some of the same problems during his life.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Shwab
Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22055262-a-darker-shade-of-magic?ac=1&from_search=true
Thoughts: I’m sad to say I haven’t read this book yet. It’s so loved by so many people and I feel inclined to read it but I’m just so intimidated!
Summary: All I know about this book is that it’s a high fantasy and it involves magic and different worlds! And that’s all I want to know because I like going into fantasy books knowing little to nothing.
And that’s all folks! Keep an eye out for my next book haul at the end of August and let me know what books you got in July!!
