Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Summary: This book follows a rock band in the 70s and their formation and the reason for their eventual breakup. This book records each characters perspective in an interviewing format as they go down the timeline of the story following their band “Daisy Jones and the Six.” This book ecompasses that era and what it meant to be in a rock band during that time period.

Opinions: I absolutely LOVED this book. I cannot even put into words how much I ended up enjoying it. It had me hooked from the first page and did not let me down once. I was a little skeptical going into this book because of the format but that turned out to be one of the main reasons why I loved this book as much as I did.

Taylor Jenkins Reid really captured the essence of what a rock band was like in the 70s. She did not sugarcoat a single thing and I really appreciated it. She made it seem like it was a real rock band which is so cool. She had me wishing it was a real band because of how amazing the book was. I loved how she put the lyrics to all the songs at the end of the book because it just made the band feel 1000 times more real.

At some points the book had me laughing and at other points I felt like crying, it was an emotional rollercoaster from the start. Also, the characters unique stories really added to the overall plot of the book. I found myself feeling sorry for Billy and Daisy and every single character at one point in the book. While I did find Billy annoying a few times I did end up loving his character development and his personality because that was just who he was and I don’t think anyone could ever really hate him. Daisy was so cool. I loved reading about her and her character development was also amazing. This book was all about each character finding themselves and it made me feel like a proud mom reading about it. I also really really loved all of the other band members. Karen was great and I loved reading from her POV because she was very relatable. And I loved Graham because I also could relate to him.

Overall, I give this book a five out of five stars. It was so much fun and had such powerful characters that you couldn’t help but love. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to transport back to time and feel the 70s vibes.
