What If It's Us by Adam Silvera & Becky Albertalli

Summary: This book is about two boys, Arthur and Ben, and fate brings them together in a post office in New York City. They connect for a few minutes until they are separated with no information about each other so there is no way of finding one another, And if they beat all odds to reunite in the busy city they need to learn how to give their new relationship a chance with their unexpected circumstances.

Opinions: I just recently finished What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli. Going into this book I definitely expected a lot more than what I read. I still really enjoyed the book but there were some things I was disappointed by.

I really loved most of the characters. Dylan was my favorite out of all of them. Even though he was not the leading main character he brought a lot to the book as a whole. He was funny and cute and sarcastic. I also really loved Ben. I understood him a lot and I loved reading from his POV.

Arthur did bother me though. A lot. He caused problems in his relationship with Ben when there weren't any problems. And he overreacted a lot and it was just kind of (extremely) annoying to read. I wish he was a little more laid back but his character was meant to be portrayed as “not chill’ so I understand where the authors were coming from.

In the beginning, the relationship between Ben and Arthur seemed very forced but that was understandable seeing as though they started off as strangers and met in a post office for .2 seconds before being split up. But I ended up really enjoying and loving their relationship for what it was. I also really loved the representation in this story, it was actually amazing.

Overall, I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars just because I expected a lot more but by the end of it I wasn’t upset with how everything unfolded.

Spoilers ahead!!!

I like that Hudson came back into Ben’s life because they were originally friends and it was nice seeing them reform a friendship after everything had happened between them.

I loved the ending because they did not sugarcoat anything. It was very realistic and it was not your typical fairytale ending. It left a lot of room for imagination on the readers side and while I hope Ben and Arthur actually did end up together, we will never really know for sure.
